The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barrister Sylvester Ezeokenwa, on Saturday, attended the burial ceremony of the late Arise TV journalist and legal practitioner, Barrister Somtochukwu Christelle Mmaduagu.

The solemn event took place at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Agulu, where friends, colleagues, and dignitaries gathered to pay their last respects to the departed media professional.

The late Barrister Mmaduagu, an accomplished broadcaster and lawyer, met her untimely death in a tragic robbery incident at her residence. Her passing sent shockwaves across Nigeria’s media landscape and the legal community, with tributes pouring in from journalists, lawyers, and public figures who admired her professionalism, eloquence, and commitment to truth.

Speaking during the burial mass, Barrister Ezeokenwa expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the late journalist as a shining light whose contributions to journalism and law embodied integrity, courage, and excellence. He noted that her sudden death was not only a personal loss to her family and colleagues but also to the nation at large, which has lost a voice of reason and an advocate for justice.

“Earlier today, I began my engagements with a solemn and grievous occasion — the burial mass of our dear sister, Barrister Somtochukwu Christelle Mmaduagu. Her passing is an irreparable loss that weighs heavily on our hearts. I earnestly pray that God, in His infinite wisdom, grants comfort and strength to her family, friends, and all who mourn her passing,” the APGA Chairman stated.

Barrister Ezeokenwa further extended condolences on behalf of the APGA family, acknowledging the late Somtochukwu’s remarkable career at Arise News, where she distinguished herself through insightful reporting and fearless pursuit of the truth. He emphasized that her professionalism and calm demeanor on screen will be remembered by all who watched her broadcasts.

He also used the occasion to call for greater efforts toward improving public safety and protecting citizens, particularly women, from violent crimes. He lamented that such tragedies continue to rob the nation of its brightest minds and called on relevant authorities to strengthen security measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

In his remarks, Barrister Ezeokenwa praised the family of the late journalist for their strength and faith during this difficult time. He assured them that the legacy of Barrister Mmaduagu would continue to inspire young Nigerians, particularly women, to pursue excellence in their chosen professions and to stand firm in the face of adversity.
